“Te Mauri o Te Awa, Karanga Ra.”
“Within the line of sight of Taupiri, the Hakarimata and Mangaharakeke Pa lies Te Awa Lakes; we greet and call you”.
Based on the values of community, connection and sustainability, the ten-year transformational Te Awa Lakes development is creating a whole new way to live, work and play in Hamilton.
Situated at Horotiu on the mighty Waikato River, Te Awa Lakes is about much more than innovative property development.
Rather, it’s a large-scale vision of community, connection, and opportunity, that will bring security, sociability and health and well-being to thousands of lives.
A former sand quarry, Te Awa Lakes’ 90ha site sits adjacent to the Waikato Expressway and near the Horotiu interchange. When completed, the $1b riverfront development will serve as a ‘Hamilton hub’, a destination for regional tourists and a gateway connecting visitors to the greater Waikato.
For residents, it will offer even more: a truly unique master-planned community living experience. Self-sufficient, sustainable, and highly connected, the Te Awa Lakes development will provide a place to thrive – with everything you need to live, work and play, right at your doorstep.
Whakatauki
In October 2020, Te Ariki Tamaroa Whatumoana Paki and Tangata Whenua Working Group buried a mauri stone on site as re-dedication of the Te Awa Lakes land located in Horotiu. A Whakatauki was also gifted to Te Awa Lakes which is “Te Mauri o Te Awa, Karanga Ra“, which gives reference to the ranges “Within the line of sight of Taupiri, the Hakarimata and Mangaharakeke Pa lies Te Awa Lakes; we greet and call you”. This is a further step for the relationship between Te Awa Lakes and our Tangata Whenua Working Group.
Te Awa Lakes is a master planned community that has thoughtfully integrated a mix of lakes, wetlands, river frontage, housing typologies, numerous outdoor amenities, and a Village Centre.
PHASE ONE
The first phase of the wider masterplan is mostly residential, with a generous offering of outdoor amenity areas through contact-quality lakes, parks, and walkways. A commercial area along Hutchinson Rd is also included in this first phase.
PHASE TWO
Provision for more residential areas, with the potential for Aged Care living and educational facilities
PHASE THREE
This seven-hectare precinct is envisaged to provide recreation, commercial, and accommodation areas. This area will not only be a great amenity for locals but will also become an indoor/outdoor adventure destination for the wider region.
